JUMP, JUMP!

2009 Spring/Summer collections are full with fresh ideas. Although the economic situation tightens belts we still need to wear something. Let’s jump into spring with the most sophisticated trend!

Last year we expected jumpsuits to be a one-season trend. But looking at the 2009 spring collections, there are enough examples to inspire us to bravely invest into a comfortable all-in-one because they will definitely demand space in your summer wardrobe. Don’t think about the vivid Pucci colors of the sixties, the Abba-style bell-bottom overalls seventies or the acid wash denim pieces of the eighties. This year designers finally found out how to create sophisticated, sexy and feminine all-in-ones. Catherine Malandrino paired silvery shimmering satin V-neck suit with a colorful gritty belt, while Cynthia Steffe created a more resorty look with her snow white jumpsuit accessorized with chunky gold bracelet and visor.
We are not telling you to replace your favorite LBD with a satin all-in-one but you can consider it as a sophisticated alternative for the evening dress. Although they are more suited for the tall and skinny (of course!) it is not as hard to wear, as you would think. First of all keep it simple and choose a plain suit (definitely avoid patterns!) that fits your shape the best and accessorize it with a belt to create an instant hourglass figure. Glam up the look with huge bracelets or a statement necklace. To put the cream onto the tart pair your jumpsuit with sky-high heels. If you still feel uncomfortable cover your back with a long line cardigan or a blazer.

Shades Shades Shades!

To get stylish shades is a never-ending struggle. Last year I bought Kate Moss’s favorite Ray Ban Wayfarer. After a few sunny days I realized that they are almost out of fashion. There is something new coming in. Carrera. This year I was lucky. My mother found a barely touched Carrera from the 80‘s at the bottom of the cupboard. But it was neither enough. Yesterday I couldn’t leave this beautiful Betsey Johnson piece on the shelf at a department store. At least it will undercover me in the hipster area.

WILD WILD WEST

New York Fashion Week - At William Rast show I felt like I was so lucky to get into a private party of Justin Timberlake’s West Coast villa.
The audience at the show of the new California based clothing company – owned by JT and his childhood friend Trace Ayala - was completely different to what I had gotten used to at a New York Fashion Week runway presentation. Few editors, few buyers. But many „too cool for the school“ kids around me. But what else can you expect from a pop star owner and an ex Diesel marketing director-turned-designer? Johan Lindberg seemed more positive about the future than other designers showing at New York Fashion Week and put some optimistic vibration in the air. The William Rast denim line takes inspiration from the 1980’s when everybody wanted to be a rock star. Marble fretted skinny jeans and biker jackets made up the basics of the collection irrespective of gender. (One couple, one leather jacket. What a recession proof idea!) To be true to itself almost every piece on the runway had a western influenced detail: studs on the shirts, fringes on the shoes, zippers and patches on the trousers. However, the redskin feather and shark teeth accessories seemed a bit commonplace though their effect was strong. There was a time when I felt shoulder pads were the dead-end of fashion design but they seemed quite right now.
The “true American collection” with its 80’s flashback will appear on the streets at least on JT’s extended A-list friends who were sitting front row – Jessica Biel, Paris Hilton, Emile Hirsch and Gerard Butler. But don’t worry Renzo Rosso Diesel is still irreplaceable!

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York

New York, NY (February 11, 2009) - With Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week less than one week away, preparations are in full swing. Show producers, sponsors, designers, members of the press, models and fashion followers from around the world will convene in New York City as the Fall 2009 Collections are presented. This season’s line up includes a number of established favorites alongside emerging designers, who come together to let the fashion world know what they are up to.

“I believe Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week will bring some positive energy and activity to the industry,” said Senior Vice President of IMG Fashion, Fern Mallis. “It’s the creativity that we now need to celebrate more than ever. Our schedule is full and despite the constant focus of the economy, we will be back to business...almost as usual.”

WE HOPE!

FROM CATWALK TO STREET

A python accessory is the must-have item of the spring season. If you buy only one thing, look for a colorful high-hill shoe.
