WILD WILD WEST

New York Fashion Week - At William Rast show I felt like I was so lucky to get into a private party of Justin Timberlake’s West Coast villa.
The audience at the show of the new California based clothing company – owned by JT and his childhood friend Trace Ayala - was completely different to what I had gotten used to at a New York Fashion Week runway presentation. Few editors, few buyers. But many „too cool for the school“ kids around me. But what else can you expect from a pop star owner and an ex Diesel marketing director-turned-designer? Johan Lindberg seemed more positive about the future than other designers showing at New York Fashion Week and put some optimistic vibration in the air. The William Rast denim line takes inspiration from the 1980’s when everybody wanted to be a rock star. Marble fretted skinny jeans and biker jackets made up the basics of the collection irrespective of gender. (One couple, one leather jacket. What a recession proof idea!) To be true to itself almost every piece on the runway had a western influenced detail: studs on the shirts, fringes on the shoes, zippers and patches on the trousers. However, the redskin feather and shark teeth accessories seemed a bit commonplace though their effect was strong. There was a time when I felt shoulder pads were the dead-end of fashion design but they seemed quite right now.
The “true American collection” with its 80’s flashback will appear on the streets at least on JT’s extended A-list friends who were sitting front row – Jessica Biel, Paris Hilton, Emile Hirsch and Gerard Butler. But don’t worry Renzo Rosso Diesel is still irreplaceable!
